Legalization of Brothels in Ontario.
Ontario's Highest court has condemned current prostitution laws for adding further hazards to a dangerous occupation. The supreme court is to finalize or strike down this law next fall or early 2013. The main case is that prostitution is itself legal. The legalizing of brothels is an attempt to take prostitutes off the streets of neighbourhoods, to marginalize pimps, and to lessen the violence done to prostitutes.
Prostitution is the world's oldest profession. There are many problems with exploitation within this profession that obviously were not addressed with the blanket act of making it illegal to contract prostitutes. These women are not being helped by these laws, it is not keeping them from doing what they do, it has only served to make their conditions worse, so what is the point of this law? It is not properly serving its purpose in limiting human trafficking, so why not change it, give proper channels into which you can see into this profession and deem what is consensual and what is human trafficking.

I agree with the fact that the government should change this law and make it better, since it has not benefited prostitution well. Also i think that we should enforce stricter rules on prostitutions and help those women in the profession
ReplyDeleteAlthough i Agree with the legalization of prostitution, I must admit I can see why some people would oppose the legalization of this act. Ethically, selling ones body for sex is something that is greatly frowned upon in our society. Therefore, I can see why people would oppose the legalization of this. However, at the end of the day I do agree that the legalization of this would take away many problems associated with prostitution.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a sad truth that prositution is the world's oldest profession. Moreover, it is more tragic to see this law that legalizes brothels in Ontario. This law clear shows how corrupt the world is. Although the law isan attempt to take prostitutes off the streets of neighbourhoods, to marginalize pimps, and to lessen the violence done to prostitutes, I believe that there should be a better solution to solve to this problem because, as Zach previously said, the law does not keep these prositutes from what they are doing."
